Talk Overview: Dancing robots, self-driving cars, and computers that can create a whole movie with one click – are we living in a sci-fi movie? In this talk, we’ll discover how artificial intelligence works and talk about the “ingredients” needed to build responsible and sustainable AI systems. We’ll explore how AI impacts people, the planet, and our future, and learn what we can all do to help make it better.
Biography: Dr. Jasmina Tacheva has been interested in computers since she was a child, listening to her grandfather’s stories about his work with the Soviet Space Program in her home country, Bulgaria. She earned her Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo in 2020 and now teaches and researches data science and the social and environmental impacts of AI at Syracuse University’s School of Information Science.
