Talk Overview:
The outstanding fossil record of sea creatures in New York State has been studied for 200 years, yet there are still many scientific studies that no one has done. We’ll discuss how to design your own research to collect and analyze fossil data, and, during this presentation, you’ll participate in identifying and measuring fossils for a large “citizen science” project on environmental changes in ancient seas over New York.
Biography:
Rob Ross is a paleontologist and science educator at the Paleontological Research Institution (“PRI” for short), a not-for-profit research and education organization in Ithaca, NY. PRI runs two public venues, the Museum of the Earth and the Cayuga Nature Center. He works alongside an amazing cadre of colleagues on exhibits, education programs, teacher workshops, and website resources, and he enjoys leading gorge walks and fossil collecting trips in the summer.
