TACNY Sweet Science Series will be taking the May Lecture Series on the road to the Onondaga County Water Environment Protection (OCDWEP) Metro facility located at 650 Hiawatha Boulevard West, Syracuse NY 13204. Join us at METRO as OCDWEP personnel take us on a tour to see technologies that were put into place to protect Onondaga Lake from excess nutrients to aid in its recovery, as well as new biogas collection and utilization systems installed in 2022 to capture and take advantage of a renewable source of energy created from wastewater solids digestion processes. We will discuss an overview of the future of OCDWEP, and how wastewater treatment plants are converting from community cost centers to resource recovery facilities.
Tour will meet at 5:30 pm in the first-floor lobby of the main operations building. Visitors are advised to wear sensible clothes for the weather as well as flat bottom anti slip shoes as we will be walking through the various processes both inside and outside, including stairwells and gratings.
