This will be an introduction to the risk and pitfalls that might be faced by a biotech startup: specifically, hacking into IoT devices and the proliferation of biometric laws and regulations across the country that would affect biotech companies.
SPEAKER BIO: James A. Long, Esq.
Jim is a skilled trial attorney and trusted counselor whose practice is primarily concentrated on business law, municipal law, data privacy & cybersecurity, startup & tech law, as well as insurance defense litigation. Jim’s broad and varied experience allows him to take a “general counsel” approach to representing his clients, most of whom are small businesses, tech startups and municipal entities. He advises his clients on corporate matters, startups, contracts and licensing, data privacy, cybersecurity compliance, data breach response, emerging technologies, and intellectual property. Since 2010, he has represented businesses, municipalities, and creatives throughout New York, New Jersey and California.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Jim was a lead developer at Xanthus, Inc. where he managed development of the first online travel booking engine in 1999. He developed a B2B social media prototype focused on task management in 2000 and built a scalable online video-rental service in 2003 in partnership with SandStorm Technologies. The experience sparked a lifelong passion for entrepreneurism. He earned his Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from The City College of New York. He was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, and moved to the Syracuse area with his wife and two sons in 2014.
